Truganina's growth: precinct plans, population and what is still coming
Truganina's housing has been planned under two precinct structure plans: the Truganina PSP, approved in 2014, and the Mt Atkinson and Tarneit Plains PSP, gazetted in 2017. Between them they allow for many thousands of new homes.
A suburb that nearly doubled
The 2016 Census counted about 20,700 people in Truganina. Five years later the 2021 Census counted about 36,300. Growth since then has continued as new stages have been released.
The Truganina precinct plan
The Truganina PSP was approved in 2014 and is reported to allow for roughly 9,400 homes. It covers much of the southern, Wyndham side of the suburb, where estates such as Westbrook and Elements sit.
Mt Atkinson in the north
The Mt Atkinson and Tarneit Plains PSP, gazetted in September 2017, covers about 1,500 hectares and plans for more than 8,000 dwellings and over 22,000 people, along with large employment land. Mt Atkinson sits in the City of Melton.
Industry next door
Truganina also holds one of Melbourne's biggest logistics precincts, including major distribution centres for national retailers. That puts large warehouse sites and heavy vehicle routes close to some housing.
Transport
There is no railway station inside Truganina itself. Residents use Williams Landing and Tarneit stations nearby. A Truganina station has been proposed but has not been built.
